One of the reasons open-world games are so successful is because of how immersive and visually rich they are. As players explore, these games instill a sense of wonder and a desire to delve further into their environments and storyline. Although I am not creating games myself, I take a huge amount of inspiration from their environments. When I create my own 3D worlds, the theme of “wonder” is a major driving force.
Flourish is based on a story my mother used to tell me when I was a child. It is about a magical treehouse that serves as a paradise play place for children of all ages. For this project, I wanted to recreate the space as I imagined it while also leaving spectators in awe at the wonder of the world. My other project, Sanctuary, focuses on a human society that has been forced to live underground. The bioluminescent cavern, filled to the brim with “alien” flora and mutated fauna, is a sight that I hope makes viewers want to know more and instills in them that same sense of wonder.
