Painting provides an outlet and the potential for the development of a personal language. In this body of work my intention was to create a sense of momentary stillness. The balance of familiar objects and scenes in relation to the chosen color and surrounding shape creates a visual way of communicating my experience and the human condition. Momentary stillness for me is when my mind settles and for a brief period the internal and external chatter ceases. Imagery from my apartment’s center table and the landscapes outside of my hometown merge as a representational vocabulary of the spaces in which my mind is still. Color and form are chosen in the moment of painting and act as a physical indulgence into my continual exposure to what is around. Imagery is repeated and changed on top of one another as well as color creating a visual stacking as time moves on. Each layer of color content is a new way of expressing the ever-changing idea of momentary stillness and paint as a language.
