To prepare a movie to view on-line, the movie needs to be the smallest file size it can be - but still retain enough quality needed per situation to view it.
To make a movie file "smaller", you need to compress the file.

Compressing the file
1. Open the movie file in Quicktime.
2. From the QuickTime Player's File menu, select Export. illustration

3. From the Export Options, select "movie to Quicktime movie". illustration B

4. Click the Options button, and a Movie Settings requestor will appear. illustration C
RECOMMENDED COMPRESSION SETTINGS for progressive downloading Quicktime movies are:
Video
MPEG-4 Video compressor
High Quality
15 frames per second
Keyframe rate: 24
Bitrate: 6400 kbits/sec
Audio
IMA 4:1
Sample rate: 22.050 kHz
Stereo
MAKE SURE the "Prepare for Internet Streaming" is checked
and "Fast Start" is selected from the pulldown menu.
5. From the "Save exported file as" requestor, direct the file path to where you would like to save the exported file and type in the file name of the file according to the assignment guidelines (ie. a1.mov, p1ra1.mov, etc.) illustration B
6. Select the "Save" button.
