What is pitch?

This is a term used to describe the frequency of sound waves. In otherwords, its the highness or lowness of a sound. By changing the pitch of a sound you can change the mood the sound creates. For example, if you had a voice-over of a lower voice and you, but you wanted to make it more comical or upbeat by changing the pitch you change the feeling related to it.









1.) Open Sound Forge.

2.) In the menu bar select File>open audio file. illustration A

An audio wave like in illustration B should have opened.

3.) Click just before the part of the sound wave you want to manipulate, then hold and drag the mouse over the wave until the entire section of the wave you want the pitch changed for is highlighted. Refer to Illustration C.

4.) In the menu bar Click on the effects>pitch bend. See illustration D.

5.) Now your screen should have an effect box that pops. To change the pitch of the sound file scroll you mouse over the box and click and drag either up or down depending on which way you want to alter the sounds wave. Refer to illustration E. When finished click ok.

If you want to preview the new pitch of the sound simply hit space bar and sit back.



6.) Now again select file>save as on the menu bar and save it as a new name.
